WALT: Blog about anything you have been doing in the holidays
Today, I've just been watching this little video on my brothers laptop. I really like there song choice and also the dance moves, it is so relaxing and easy flowing, they must have had to practice it a couple of times to get it this perfect. Not to mention, the timing and place they chose to dance was unique because, they were able to capture the last few moments of the sun just before it had set.

End of term 3 :(
Yesterday was the last day of Term 3 which means next term will be the last term for the year 8’s, which is really sad because we are going to miss them very dearly. But, even though it is going to be tough to say goodbye we should still be filled with happiness and joy because, we know that they will be ready for any challenges that comes their way, not to mention they will be going to college and setting new goals in life. Also, we know that they were once one of us. So it is going to be hard to say bye to the year 8’s when the time comes, but we just need to remember to keep our faith in them well they are setting a new path for their new journeys.
Anyways, it is the school holidays and for most of us we will be doing the regular routines. Like making your bed, after that you’ll go and have some breakfast before having a quick shower and brush your teeth. Later on you’ll brush your hair to make sure it isn’t all tangled up and looks like you woke up in a jungle with a bunch of wild monkeys. Then you do at least five or less chores before going outside to play with your friends, and so it repeats for many days to come.
But for some of us, we won’t be repeating all these same things everyday. We will be getting up at 6:30am on Monday to get ready to leave the house for the most exciting week of all time, RIVER SIDE CAMP AT WILLOW PARK! It is going to be the best 5 days of our lives. Everyday each activity is going to be, wet, mucky, funny, tiering, competitive and the obvious AWESOME! Even me describing how it is going to go gives me goosebumps already. I just wish it could go on for a whole month, can’t wait to go. Let’s hope the whole 5 days are going to be bright and sunny.

Cross Country
Walt: Write an effective writing about Cross Country and make sure that you Show and not Tell your audience what happened at Cross Country.
On the starting line I could feel my stomach twisting like a washing machine, I prayed to God, praying that he would be by my side, my heart was pounding like a thunder storm getting ready to spread lightning. I could feel the joy of the crowd resonating through my ears, I feel like going home but it was to late to turn back now. Mr Burt yelled, “on your marks, get set...GO!” He smacked the starting blocks together and off we went, I darted off, like a lion released from it’s cage.
We were sprinting like wildfire spreading through the forest, my legs were already starting to fill with pain but I pushed on. I could feel the presence of the lord within me, the warmth of his loving hands pushing me on. I finally finished my first lap and I was happy for that, I was on my second lap I felt like breaking down but the sound of the crowd pushed me on.
I was relieved to see the finish line, I ran out of breath I felt like the big bad wolf getting ready to blow a house down, my throat dried up like a dessert, my sweat dripping down my face like water falls. When I finally passed the finish line I felt the joy of accomplishment within me, I felt as free as a bird.
Advice Column
WALT: Find information in the text to support our thinking Task: Our task was to write the title for our Advice Column and we had to write 2 sentences explaining what our advice column is for and what we will be doing on it. We had to give information about what we have to do when we are sleeping and what we can improve with us getting less tired than we already are, we had to make up our own characters and read their problems that they need help with. The next slide was for us to write our own reply back to our own character to give him some advice on how to improve his sleeping. |

WALT: Create a presentation about the New Zealand Olympic Athletes that won a medal from the Olympic Games in Rio.
Task: Our task was to create a presentation about the Olympic Games that was held in Rio, but we had to only add the New Zealand Athletes that won a medal in Rio. We had to add as much details as we can and some information about the athletes, we also had to show some pictures and video's about them. We had to show some cool and different fonts, then we had to do different kinds of backgrounds to make sure that they don't look the same.

How Our Muscles Work
Last week, in reading, we inspected what muscle fatigue was and why our muscles get fatigued. This week we are going to inspect even further and write about how our muscles work. We had to watch two little video’s to tell us different kinds of information that we need to know about our muscles that we have in our body and what their jobs are.
Did you know you have more than 600 muscles in your body? These muscles help you move, lift things, pump blood through your body, and even help you breathe. When you think about your muscles, you probably think most about the ones you can control. These are your voluntary muscles, which means you can control their movements. They are also called Skeletal muscles, because they attach to your bones and work together with your bones to help you walk, run, pick up things, play an instrument, throw a baseball, kick a soccer ball, push a lawnmower, or ride a bicycle. Muscles are all made of the same material, a type of elastic tissue (sort of like the material in a rubber band). Thousands, or even tens of thousands, of small fibers make up each muscles. You have three different types of muscles in your body, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle.
Smooth muscles, sometimes also called involuntary muscles are usually sheets, or layers, with one layer of muscle behind the other. You can’t control this type of muscle. Your brain and body tell these muscles what to do without you even thinking about it. You can’t use your smooth muscles to make a muscle in your arm or jump into the air. But the smooth muscles are at work all over your body. In your stomach and digestive system, they contract (tighten up) and relax to allow food to make its journey through the body. Your smooth muscles come in handy if you’re sick and you need to throw up. The muscles push the food back out of the stomach so it comes up through the esophagus and out of the mouth.
Now, let’s talk about the kind of muscle you think of when we say “muscle” the one that show how strong you are and let you boot a soccer ball into the goal. Their are your skeletal muscles sometimes called the striated muscle because, the light and dark parts of the muscle fibers make them look striped (striated is a fancy word meaning striped). Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles, which means you can control what they do. Your leg won’t bend to kick the soccer ball unless you want it to. Their muscles help you make up the musculoskeletal system the combination of your muscles and you skeleton, or bones.
For me personally, muscles are very important to us because it moves our bodies and that it is really helpful. If we never had muscles inside our bodies, we won’t be able to move at all.

BFG Blog Post
Last term our literacy teacher read to us The BFG book by Roald Dahl. Yesterday our class went to watch the recently released BFG movie.
The movie had some differences with the book. For instance, at the end of the book it was said that the nine human eating giants were put down in a deep whole so people could come and look at them. But in the movie instead of being put in a deep deep whole, they were put on an island surround by water in the middle of no where and the giants hated water.
My favourite character would be the BFG because of his personality, he is kind, caring, funny, risky and fob. Also my other favourite thing about him is that he can be like a ninja at night.
My favourite part of the movie was when the BFG, Sophie and the army got rid of those 9 child eating giants. Thanks to the BFG and Sophie the world was safe. Now the world could be at peace and not worry about kids going missing ever again. The names of the giants were The Fleshlumpeater, the Bonecruncher, the Manhugger, the Childchewer, Meatdripper, the Gizzardgulper, the Maidmasher, The Bloodbottler, and The Butcher Boy.
The BFG is a kind giant who cares about people and wants to make kids around the world happy and have goodnight sleeps. Sophie showed me, "No matter how small you are you can make a big difference."
How the Olympics came to be
From 776 bc to 2016 these amazing games have been profiling the best sportsmen in the world. The main event at the Olympics was not a sporting event, but a sacrifice. On the third day of the games, 100 oxen were sacrificed and burnt on the Altar of Zeus. This altar was not made from stone. Instead it was made from the leftover ash of all the sacrificed oxen. By around 200 AD, the mound of ash stood six meters high! Read on for more information.
The Olympic Games began over 2,700 years ago in Olympia, in south west Greece. Every four years, around 50,000 people came from all over the Greek world to watch and take part. The ancient games were also a religious festival, held in honour of Zeus, the king of the gods. There were no Gold, Silver or bronze medals. Winners were awarded crowns of sacred olive branchs and a hero's welcome back home.
Running was the first event to be included in the Olympic Games. Athletes ran up and down a 192 metre track in the stadium. Before the race, the competitors lined up along a stone starting block. If anyone tried to get a head start, they were disqualified and beaten for cheating. The toughest running race is called Hoplitodromos In this event, runners competed wearing armour and carrying a shield. These could weigh up to 25kg!
Before the games could begin, messengers were sent out to announce a ‘sacred truce’ or a peace. This meant that any wars should be called off so the people could travel safely to Olympia. Back then only men, boys and unmarried girls were allowed to attend the Olympic Games. Married women were barred. If they were caught sneaking in as punishment they would get thrown off the side of a mountain! However, women could still own horses in the chariot races at the Olympics and unmarried women had their festival at Olympia every four years. This was called the Heraia and was held in honour of Hera, Zeus's wife. Winners were awarded crowns of sacred olive branches, the same as men. But in ancient Greece, only Spartan women were really interested in sport.
But this is the year 2016 where either men or women are allowed to compete and more activities have been played. Before only 10-15 people competed, but now there are 204 countries competing and over 11,000 people.

Introduction to Ratios & Proportions
Walt: Introduction to ratios |
We learned that ratios are value comparisons, and proportions are equal ratios. Ratios can be written with colons or as fractions. So, to compare the number of girls to boys in a litter of puppies, we can write 2:4 or 2/4 to say that there are two girls to four boys.

Ten things you can do for your PARENTS
#1 - Stop being selfish
Don’t run to your parents only when you need them or do things for the sake of it. Love your parents and care for them, not because they are the authority and will favor you when you are good to them. Instead, put your effort in strengthening the bond and nurturing an healthy relation between you. If you will fake things, they might someday end up turning sour and hurt both of you. Show them you love them, because you do. After all it's lovely to see your parents smile especially when the reason is you.
#3 - Share their problems
If your parents look stressed, leave everything aside for a few minutes and ask them what is wrong and if you can do anything to help them out. If they don’t want to share then it’s OK, don’t annoy them and be careful of not encroaching in their personal space. And if they choose to share with you, carefully listen without interrupting. Sometimes even you can be the cause of their concern, so stay calm and collected when they speak. And once they complete, console them and try to fix the problematic and even you can’t, at least assure them they need not worry. And no matter what the problem is and whether they speak their heart out or not, make sure try to cheer them up and make sure you hug them or kiss their forehead before you leave.
#7 - Never Argue
Whatever age or gender you belong to, you can never deny the fact that your parents are more experienced than you, thus you have to think and listen with respect what they have to say and try to agree with them. And if you don’t, then keep your points respectfully in front of them. Don’t ever yell at or argue with them. It will more than making the matter worse, hurt them deep and they will end up believing you don’t respect and need them. Even if it is their mistake, at least listen to them and don’t talk rude with them or blindly criticize them. They only want to do good to you.
#8 - Be responsible
If you are a responsible child, not only it will make your parents feel proud of you but will establish their trust deeper in you. Take care of your siblings, help them when they need something, don’t disturb your parents much over petty issues. Take care of yourself and be responsible for your actions, excel in whatever you do. Make sure you are truthful to them and don’t do anything which can hurt them. Respect the boundaries they have set for you, but that doesn’t mean you have to restrict yourself from doing what you wish, but just take care that you don’t cross the line so that they don’t have to keep an eye on you. Whatever independence is given to you, be happy with it and make occasional use of it. Too much use of freedom can be troublesome for them. This will make you mature and your parents confident about your actions.

Show them you love them, because you do. After all it's lovely to see your parents smile especially when the reason is you.
#2 - Accept your mistake
At the first place, don’t like and even if you end up doing something wrong, don’t hide it. Go and admit your mistake rather than piling up lies and excuses on it. Resolve the issue and realize that you are, may be, wrong and owe an apology to them. They will understand your part and quickly forgive, as soon as you apologize.
And no matter what the problem is and whether they speak their heart out or not, make sure try to cheer them up and make sure you hug them or kiss their forehead before you leave.
#4 - Do little things for them
Remember their special events, like birthdays, anniversary or the day you all moved to a new house and celebrate it. You can take them out or purchase a gift for them, do something remarkable. Apart from it, you can prepare breakfast for them on a random day or surprise them with movie tickets. Praise what they cook for you and when it is delicious, go to them and make them taste it with your hands. You can prepare handmade cards or scrapbook for them. You can apply varnish on your mum’s nails or knot a tie for your dad. These little affectionate things convey all that is never said and your parents love to see when their child is respecting family moments.
#5 - Be grateful
They may never say but they have done a lot for you, you may ignore but they love you a lot, they don’t expect anything but it is your duty to do something for them. Even if you can’t do anything for them and are very very busy in enjoying your life and work but at least take some time out to pay gratitude for things they have done for you, the sacrifices they made and loving you even when you totally pissed them off. Do it occasionally, say it with flowers or give a ‘thank you’ card or simply hug them and say ‘Thank you and love you’. Stop pulling away, not only it will make them happy and take you closer to them but will also add to the cherish-able memories for both of you.
#6 - Spend time with your parents
Forget all the tips and stop worrying about how to make parents happy. Just take some time out and be with your parents. For parents children are the best thing that happened to them. But when you ignore them they feel hurt and lonely and as they grow old they are in a constant urge of company. Thus, try to spend some quality time for your parents. You can watch their favorite TV show together or have dinner with them; take them out for a family picnic or you can simply stay at home and have an hearty talk with them.
Whatever independence is given to you, be happy with it and make occasional use of it. Too much use of freedom can be troublesome for them. This will make you mature and your parents confident about your actions.
#9 - Be cooperative
Despite everything else, it is your duty to help your parents when they need you or even when they don’t need you. You can do little things for them, like peel the vegetables, trim the grass wash the car for them before they go out, dust off the furniture or take your dog for a walk. Moreover, don’t wish for all the attention and instead you can attend your siblings, at times younger ones can be quite annoying. Let them rest for a while and take some time out for themselves which they miss after having a family. But please don’t go gaga over what you do. Keep doing the things silently and they will eventually notice and feel proud of you.
#10 - Be obedient
As kids grow they start having a mindset of their own and become more decisive about what is right or wrong. They want the complete control of their lives under them. But keep in mind the fact that your parents have done a lot for you and whatever they decide is never against you. Try to obey what they say. Do you chores and anything else they ask you. Do it with pride and do not create a fuss about it. Respect their rules, and don’t do things they don’t like, even when they ain’t around.

Sick at home 2
Today is the 4th of July, and it is the last few days before the holidays come up
and as you can see again, I am at home with a really sore and blocked ear plus a bad flue. I don't know how I got it but all I know is that I dislike being sick because I miss out on school and I miss out on a day with my friends.
But I am so happy I am recovering slowly and that I get to go back to school tomorrow. The reason being is because, this whole day the only thing I have been doing is. . . . . (1) - Blow my nose, (2) - Watch videos on YouTube and (3) - Be SILENT.
So I am so happy to go to school where. . . . . (1) - I have something to do, (2) - I can be with my friends and (3) - I can be as loud as I want to be at lunch and morning tea time.
So yeah, can't wait to see you my friends, and thank you for visiting my blog once again.
May God Bless you through out your life where ever you are
see you on my next blog post.

Word Problems
WALT: To find more than one way of solving each problem
I learned to identify the operation, find the equation I was working out and show how I solved the problem. It was quiet challenging for me when it came to the last three slides, slides 11,12 and 13. But with the help of my mum, we were able to figure it out. Thanks mum :)

Wool & nail art
Today me and room 3, have been creating a star made out of a piece of wood some wool nails and a hammer.
It was a lot of fun, it took me and my partner about ten minuets to figure out a pattern for our star.
This was the best one hour and a half of my life.

We are learning to 'show' not 'tell'. To be honest it kinda took a while for me to figure out what words to use and where to put it, but luckily my teacher came and rescued me.

Immersion Assembly
Finally out of bed and out the door ready for another day of school I can’t believe i’m saying this but I missed school because of all the task we were given and all the different things we get to do. In the beginning of this year we were in term 1 and our theme was, ‘Make kindness go viral’, now we are in term 2, the theme is ‘As I see it.’
We had a Immersion Assembly, each team had an item.
Team 1’s item was all about favorite things for example Ms George’s favorite chocolate is Hokey Pokey.
Team 2’s item was about the different seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and lastly Winter I liked how they talked about all the warm and bright colours which relates towards the seasons. Team 2 movie
Team 3 were all about Grand Designs they first met on Facebook and they all agreed to come together to create their dream house their show was very funny. Team 3 movie
Team 4 on the other hand has to be one of my top favorites, their item was all about comics their comic was called The Teacher Vengers, the actors were: Ms West and Ms Moala Amateur Heroes, Bear Baxindine as the Villain ( It is an actual teddy bear) Mr Goodwin as Bat Guy, Mr Somerville as Teacher Leader America for short is T.L.A, and lastly Miss Lavakula as Wondering Woman. Team 4 movie
Team 5, our team were all about the waka, Mrs Tele’a was Hine Moana, Ms Garden was Hokulea, Ms Berry was Te Aurere, Mrs Saddler was Hikianalia. Each colour has a purpose, we will begin with Hine Moana. This colour represents the goddess of the sea, Hokulea represents the earth, Te Aurere represents Blood, tears and sweat and Hikianalia represents the stars. After all the cool and amazing items we all stood up had a big stretch and started to walk back to class.

The life of my brother - Fa‘afetai
When he was a little kid he was really shy and he didn t know what to expect . When he and the family came from Samoa to New Zealand, at first he thought , "It will be good, " but soon he would learn that it wasen‘t that easy to adapt into this new inviormant. So my family try to fit in at work, because my dad had to rush back to get him ready for school, but it got harder and harder for him to go work come back, so he retired his job of being a part time worker to take care of him. Ever since he retired he has been driving him around for work, he says work is fun because he gets to talk to people who really understands him,so yeah you meet people like me that really want to fight freedom of choice. Thats what our family tort him.

Ways to make kindness go viral
Helping the homeless ( Giving $2 to the homeless could change there life )
Doing the chores ( Doing the chores means less for your parents, now they can rest and so can you there is nothing else to do )
Looking after your pet ( When you look after your pet it means he/she will feel loved and being cared for also, it means you are taking charge and being responsible )Be KIND ( Be kind by doing some of these things or be more creative and do something more, go out of the box and be kinda-mental )
